Assistant Director of Safety and Security

£59,916 – £68,819 per annum (plus excellent benefits)

Create culture of safety and security which improves the campus experience in a world-class higher education environment.

The School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) is a college of the University of London and the only Higher Education institution in the UK specialising in the study of Asia, Africa and the Near and Middle East.

Based in the heart of Central London the School has some impressive facilities, including the Brunei Gallery, opened in 1995, which provides a notable conference venue. The estate also includes the SOAS Library which is recognised as a collection of national importance. In 2016, Senate House North Block opened, creating a single unified campus for SOAS. The redevelopment of the North Block of the building extended SOAS’ Central London campus, creating spaces that facilitate both formal and informal teaching and learning.

The security team within SOAS are in a period of transformation and there is not a better time to join as their new Assistant Director of Safety and Security. With several exciting projects and initiatives in the pipeline, the new AD will be at the forefront of these – driving innovation and change and focusing on improving the campus experience for all staff and students. Key responsibilities will also include the reimagination and implementation of new SOPs, development, and training of existing and new staff, as well as mapping and revolutionising operational practices to provide a 5-star and best-in-class service.

You will bring your outstanding security expertise, leadership, and knowledge to this opportunity and build on your already impressive skill set to make this role a success. Possessing outstanding communication skills are essential, as well as experience in building those key community relationships. The characteristics of SOAS are unique, so bringing your comparable experience in a similar setting will enable a smooth transition into this role, as well as the expertise in managing and delivering change in a diverse environment.

The excellent benefits package includes generous annual leave (30 days leave, plus closure days (normally 6 per year), plus bank holidays, a competitive pension scheme (employer contribution of 18%) and a host of other family friendly, health & well-being and financial benefits.
