Get to know… Steph Tickner

What do you do at MRG?
I am a recruitment assistant for the MRG People Asia Team

What are you most proud about that you have achieved in your career to date?
I would have to say my beginning journey into recruitment. I worked my way up from a compliance manager, applying for an internal position as a junior consultant and then progressing very quickly into a team leader for the southern division. I also am proud of following my dreams and passion for travel and being able to now work in Bali!

How did you get into recruitment, and why?
Similar to above. My background is actually legal. I have a law degree and was previously training for the bar exam to be a qualified criminal barrister. Through seeing how the justice system was running and a personal circumstance, I stepped away from that path and fell into compliance within a recruitment company and worked my way up from there!

What energises you about working in this sector?
My main focus as a recruiter in the past was always contract. I really love the fast-paced mentality and having to fill roles fast.

What’s the biggest thing that’s changed in recruitment since you started?
Probably the way we search for candidates. Having the tools within LinkedIn recruiter is a game-changer. Also the flexibility within MRG I have never experienced before. They have been so understanding and supportive.

What’s one thing that most people don’t know about you?
I can and love to sing. From an early age I have loved to perform. I actually entered a charity talent show in one of my previous companies. It lights me up to sing in my spare time and I sometimes share videos on my tiktok! I am also obsessed with surfing.

What’s the best advice anyone has ever given you?
Stay focused on your own lane.

What three words would your colleagues use to describe you?
Passionate, ambitious, and consistent.

And finally, who would play you in the movie about your life?
Kate Winslet
