Get to know… Sherena Otadende

What do you do at University People?
I am a delivery consultant, assisting Sian with the delivery of campaigns.

What are you most proud about that you have achieved in your career to date?
I have project managed over 150 university placements in London and Scotland.

How did you get into recruitment, and why?
Recruitment found me! I literally stumbled upon it and the interest has grown ever since.

What energises you about working in this sector?
People! At every juncture of search there is someone either seeking for a new opportunity or recruiting for one and the people are the heart of all we do; clients, candidates and colleagues.

What’s the biggest thing that’s changed in recruitment since you started?
Flexibility. The initiative that productivity can still take place without physically being in the same building. Genuine relationships can be formed whether in person or online.

What’s one thing that most people don’t know about you?
I have an arts background. In my younger years, I was a part of the West London School of dance and trained professionally in ballet for several years – performing in ‘The Nutcracker’ yearly. In my older years, my love for dance is still there but I mainly sing in my local church and occasionally provide backing vocals for gospel artists.

What’s the best advice anyone has ever given you?
Forgiveness can be difficult, but the freedom you receive is infinite.

What three words would your colleagues use to describe you?
Calm, Loyal, Personable

And finally, who would play you in the movie about your life?
Ooo, tough one…Sheryl Lee Ralph/ Angela Basset – LEGENDS!
