Get to know… Karan Sharma

What do you do at MRG?

I am a Recruitment Manager for the Indian market. I will be responsible for creating recruitment strategies and building relationships within Real Estate, Construction and Infrastructure domains.

What are you most proud about that you have achieved in your career to date?

My most memorable career moment was helping and supporting a candidate to find their dream job. A candidate of mine had to take care of his father undergoing cancer treatment and ended up having an 11-month gap on his resume. He always cracked the interview but was struggling with the offers being proposed. The best feeling is when you call a candidate to let them know they have been selected. The way they react is beautiful.

How did you get into recruitment and why?

I worked in Real estate strategy and consulting for seven years and with the oncoming of the pandemic I wanted to explore other business lines which aligned with my key interests.

What energises you about working in this sector?

Recruitment has helped me better connect with and sell opportunities to candidates, and we’ve built relationships because of that. I have always liked observing human behaviour – and so much of what we do is about stakeholder management and engaging with the right people in the right ways. It’s nice to be able to help people find their dream jobs.

What’s the biggest thing that’s changed in recruitment since you started?

The working culture has undergone an immense change post pandemic. Companies that have taken employee friendly hybrid working cultures into account have attracted more talent. The Technology has also evolved accordingly, and we are witnessing a more sustainable employee friendly business environment.

What do you think the biggest misconception people have about you is?

That I overthink things too much.I like to be prepared. What’s wrong with that? I like elements of surprise and adventure too but I just like to have a few back up plans.

What’s one thing that most people don’t know about you?

That I absolutely love films and I can suggest you a good film for any mood.

What’s the best advice anyone has ever given you?

Are you asking the right questions?

What three words would your colleagues use to describe you?

Creative, Dependable and Dedicated.

And finally, who would play you in the movie about your life?

Vir Das
