Get to know… Wejdan AlMalki

What is your role at MRG?
I am an Associate Recruitment Consultant.

What are you most proud of that you have achieved in your career to date?
I don’t have one specific career achievement I point to, but I’m proud that I always try and never give up.

How did you get into recruitment, and why?
I didn’t set out to build a career in recruitment. I actually pictured myself teaching. That path led me to a Training & Development Coordinator internship, where I got my first taste of interviews: assessing candidates’ behaviour, experience, and coachability.

Working alongside the talent acquisition team, I fell in love with the process itself. Every interview felt like a different story, a new background, a different personality, a real exchange rather than just Q&A. That’s when it clicked: I didn’t just enjoy training people; I enjoyed listening to them.

“Recruitment chose me” is a line I’ve heard a lot of people say, and I always thought it sounded a bit cliché. But looking back at my own path, it’s genuinely the most accurate way I can describe it. A few different, unplanned turns that all happened to lead me to the same place.

What energises you about working in this sector?
What energises me is that it’s never the same. Every role is a completely new journey, a different industry to understand, a different client’s priorities to learn, a different set of people to get to know. That’s what keeps me genuinely engaged, sharp, and curious.

What’s the biggest thing that’s changed in recruitment since you started?
In Saudi specifically, I’ve noticed the growing presence of recruitment agencies. And, obviously, AI.

What’s one thing that most people don’t know about you?
Honestly, I don’t know; I think I’m pretty much an open book 🙂

What’s the best advice anyone has ever given you?
I came across a quote once that stuck with me: “Fear is an invitation to evolve.”

What three words would your colleagues use to describe you?
Passionate, hardworking, and patient.

And finally, who would play you in the movie about your life?
I’d probably just play myself. I don’t know enough about actors or their roles to pick someone, even though I’m always keeping up with a new series.
