Get to know…Connor Humpage

What is your role at MRG?

Senior Practice Manager – FM. I recruit Maintenance & Engineering Leadership roles within FM.

What are you most proud about that you have achieved in your career to date?

One of my best pieces of recruitment was relocating a C-suite candidate from the Middle East to glorious Bolton. It wasn’t because of the weather. She is an exceptional leader; we’ve worked together many times to grow her team since her appointment.

How did you get into recruitment, and why?

After leaving university, various people told me that I was made for sales with my “gift of the gab” and happy-go-lucky attitude and that I should try my hand at recruitment. I was a bit rough around the edges, but once a company took a chance on me, I was never going to look back and take the opportunity. Ten years later, I still have the same appetite as when I first started.

What energises you about working in this sector?

The Public Sector estate has always fascinated me, and working in the space for as long as I have, I feel a sense of pride in supporting its people to deliver a world-class estate through the growth of their teams.

What’s the biggest thing that’s changed in recruitment since you started?

Technology and personality. People rely too much on technology and forget the basics of getting your personality across to candidates and clients alike. For me, in order to stay at the forefront of people’s minds, you need to be memorable.

What’s one thing that most people don’t know about you?

I was once on the front Sports page of the Daily Mirror after West Ham were relegated from the Premier League after losing 3-2 away at Wigan back in May 2011. To couple this, I’m almost as mad for Wicked as I am West Ham. No wonder the bubbles are always defying gravity.

What’s the best advice anyone has ever given you?

You only get out of life what you put into it. What goes around, comes around.

What three words would your colleagues use to describe you?

Caring, Enthusiastic, Memorable.

And finally, who would play you in the movie about your life?

Ryan Gosling.
