New Hospital Programme
At the heart of the Trust’s future plans is the replacement of Airedale General Hospital. The current hospital, built during the late 1960s, contains significant amounts of reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (RAAC), which has reached the end of its intended lifespan. Following a successful national bid, Airedale secured a place on the Government’s New Hospital Programme in 2023, creating a once-in-a-generation opportunity to rebuild the hospital and reimagine the way care is delivered.
The new hospital will provide a safe, modern and digitally enabled environment, designed around the needs of patients, staff and local communities. Developed using the New Hospital Programme’s Hospital 2.0 principles, the facility will support modern models of care, embrace innovation and technology, improve sustainability and create greater flexibility for future healthcare needs.
Alongside the physical redevelopment, the programme presents an opportunity to transform healthcare delivery across the region. Working closely with partners, the Trust is exploring how more services can be delivered closer to people’s homes, supporting the NHS ambition to move from hospital-centred care towards integrated neighbourhood and community-based services.
The New Hospital Programme is not simply about constructing a building; it is about creating a healthcare legacy that will serve local communities for decades to come.
