United Learning is a group of schools, which aims to provide excellent education to children and young people across the country. We seek to improve the life chances of all the children and young people we serve and make it our mission to bring out ‘the best in everyone’ – students, staff, parents, and the wider community. Uniquely, our Group includes significant numbers of schools in both the public and the private sectors, working together for mutual benefit.
We are seeking a dynamic and innovative Energy and Sustainability Manager to spearhead our energy-related initiatives and promote best practice in sustainable actions. Reporting to the Director of Estates, this pivotal role involves developing, planning, and coordinating efforts to significantly reduce expenditure on utilities like gas, electricity, and water. A critical part of your mission will be contributing to our ambitious goal of reducing emissions by 50K tCO2e by 2030, marking a major stride towards achieving net zero.
This role demands effective collaboration with external experts and schools. You’ll play a key role in defining, implementing, and executing a comprehensive energy and water usage reduction plan, liaising with both internal and external partners to ensure successful outcomes. As a member of our Carbon Neutral project team, you’ll shape and deliver the energy and decarbonisation component of our carbon reduction strategy, ensuring all schools have actionable decarbonisation plans integrated with school building development strategies. Your responsibilities will include providing informed, evidence-based advice on energy matters, encompassing energy contracts, decarbonisation, and broader sustainability issues.
We are looking for someone with a deep interest in energy and environmental issues, ideally backed by relevant qualifications (IEMA or similar) or willingness to pursue them. Essential attributes include: extensive knowledge of UK energy markets; excellent communication abilities; including strong persuasive skills, strong strategic and analytical acumen; and the capacity to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
This role offers a unique opportunity to make a tangible impact on our environmental footprint while progressing in a fulfilling career. If you are passionate about driving sustainable change and meet these criteria, we encourage you to apply.
