Job Overview

The Electrical Systems Expert for Rolling Stock will be responsible for providing specialized knowledge and expertise in the field of electrical systems and components within rolling stock projects. This role includes offering technical advice across various engineering disciplines, reviewing design initiatives to ensure they meet engineering standards, and establishing competency standards for staff. The goal is to achieve effective and efficient delivery of projects within agreed financial and service targets.

Responsibilities

Technical Expertise

  • Act as the primary point of contact for all electrical systems related to rolling stock.
  • Provide expert-level knowledge on electrical components, subsystems, and systems used in rolling stock, including traction systems, power distribution, control systems, auxiliary power units, and wiring systems.

Design and Integration

  • Collaborate with engineering teams to review and analyze design deliverables (e.g., electrical schematics, diagrams, technical specifications) submitted by consultants and contractors.
  • Ensure compliance with technical requirements, including performance, safety, regulatory, and operational and maintenance (O&M) objectives.

Testing & Commissioning

  • Review the testing and commissioning (T&C) program for rolling stock.
  • Attend and witness T&C activities, including the Fault-free Running Test prior to acceptance and delivery to the site for revenue operation.
  • Ensure compliance with mandatory, voluntary, and contractual requirements for the construction, commissioning, and operation of rolling stock and components.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Stay updated on industry regulations, standards, and guidelines related to rolling stock electrical systems.

Training & Knowledge Transfer

  • Organize training sessions and share knowledge and best practices regarding rolling stock electrical systems with internal teams and external stakeholders.

Site Acceptance Completion Certificate

  • Recommend the issuance of the Site Acceptance Completion Certificate upon completion of all required tests, ensuring the Client’s expectations are met as per required specifications.

Handover Coordination

  • Lead the coordination of the handover process of completed rolling stock work from the Contractor to the Client.
  • Ensure a smooth transfer and that all requirements meet the specified standards and contractual commitments.

Stakeholder Management

  • Build and establish good relationships with both internal and external stakeholders to enhance project reliability and maintainability.

People Management & Development

  • Provide direction, support, feedback, coaching, and development opportunities for Rolling Stock Engineers.
  • Take corrective action when appropriate to build a high-performing team with high standards of excellence.

Requirements

  • Education: Minimum Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience: 10 to 15 years of working experience, with at least 7 years in a management role, preferably with a good understanding of depot and workshop environments.
  • Technical Skills: Experience in electrical design (systems) and delivery in rail projects. Ability to investigate technical issues and derive performance indicators for part or entire systems using analytical skills and the scientific method.
  • Leadership Skills: Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and inspire confidence in others.
  • Track Record: Proven track record in delivering successful rail projects.
