Get to know…Craig Douglas

What do you do at MRG?
I am a Senior Manager on the FM team working specifically to work on, and expand the Sustainability piece within Higher education and beyond.

What are you most proud about that you have achieved in your career to date?
Maybe not a specific achievement but I am proud of bouncing back from a few setbacks in my working life (financial crashes, pandemics etc) and being able to show tenacity and learn and grow into the situation I am in now.

How did you get into recruitment, and why?
Like most I hadn’t planned to but after working in FM for a number of years I became a bit disillusioned with my Sales roles and went to a recruitment company to see my options. After many meetings with them they suggested I come work for them, and the rest is history!

What energises you about working in this sector?
I feel strongly that the future of the world and humans is at risk unless we address climate change. There are many interesting, passionate, and innovative people out there trying to change the world and I feel honoured to work with them in the industry.

What’s the biggest thing that’s changed in recruitment since you started?
Recruitment is becoming a more valuable and consultative industry and companies like MRG are at the forefront of this. Whereas before Recruitment may have been seen as a necessary evil, these days clients see the real value in a retained thorough search process.

What’s one thing that most people don’t know about you?
I once embarrassingly fell from my bike at the start line of a 100mile charity ride and broke a bone in my arm. Not wanting to give up after all the training I kept quiet and suffered the whole ride- only going to hospital the next day. Some people may think it is impressive, but I think it was rather stupid!

What’s the best advice anyone has ever given you?
There is no point worrying about things you have no control over.

What three words would your colleagues use to describe you?
approachable, kind, and funny (I hope)

And finally, who would play you in the movie about your life?

Id love to say someone like a Chris Patt or Tom Hardy but most people say I sound and act like Rob Beckett- so I guess him *sobs*
